Tours/Events 2011
Our annual Cycle tour on the Somerset Levels with Glastonbury Tor in the background.

Following what seems an endless winter, here we are at the start of another dancing season. Easter this year is as late as it comes so here's hoping we get a good dancing day. As usual we're starting at Vivary Park in Taunton and distributing Simnel Cake if you're lucky you might get a piece. It usually only lasts as far as Halse, but last year there were reported sightings at Hillfarrance (although these reports do have to officially verified.)

In addition to the dances from Ilmington and Bampton we were performing last year, this season we present some dances we've developed in our own style which we've worked hard at through the practice season. We hope you enjoy them
The Dances

In the town of Bampton in Oxfordshire, the Morris has been performed at Whitsuntide every year (except in time of war) for well over 500 years. In 1974 Bampton fielded three distinct teams of dancers. That situation continues to the present day, and on the Spring Bank Holiday Monday each side follows its own course around the town, courteously avoiding one another.

The Ilmington dances were originally published in the the Morris Book Part 1 (1912-24) edited by Cecil Sharp and Herbert MacIlwaine. The Ilmington Morris is a living tradition (that is still danced in the village) and was revived in 1970s.

The Taunton Deane dances are new this year - time will tell!

For more information on these Morris traditions see below.
